Going Abroad with Gloucester

The ErasUOGs+ programme is an EU-funded education programme designed to encourage you to enhance your university education by spending a period of study in another European Union member state, or member states of the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway & Switzerland). We have over 100 excellent exchange partners in the EU and funding is available for students going abroad on the ErasUOGs+ Programme.

Study Abroad Programme (Non EU)

The Study Abroad programme gives you the opportunity to study at one of our exchange partners located outside the EU. We have excellent exchange partners in the UK, Asia, North America and Australia. There is no funding available for study abroad outside the EU and we recommend that you read the Cost of Living Guide in advance of applying.

STEP 1: RESEARCH

  • View the partner universities that you can study at on the Global Partner Listing.
  • Thoroughly research the partner universities you would like to study at paying particular attention to the courses/modules available, the language of instruction, accommodation and the cost of living. You will find partner information on the Global Partner Listing and on our partner university websites in the International or Study Abroad sections.
  • Read the Outgoing Student Exchange Handbook for guidance on all aspects of studying abroad.
  • Review the ErasUOGs Charter for important academic and administration information.
  • Read the Exams Results Policy Document to ensure you understand the implications of exams results on studying abroad.
  • Attend an Information session hosted by the International Office during October & November 2023- dates to be confirmed.
  • Contact your Department International Coordinator for information on academic requirements and advice on which universities might be best suited to you.
  • Connect with UOG students who have gone abroad in previous years or students from partner universities who have studied at UOG as ERASUOGS+ students. Please contact the International Office or the ESN for details.
  • Follow us on Instagram to view student stories and get important updates.
  • If you are interested in going abroad on a work placement you should contact the Placement Office or your Department International Coordinator if you are interested in the English Language Assistant (ELA) scheme.

Depending on your programme you may be able to spend a year or semester studying abroad.
Additional Year

  • Undergraduate students doing a 3-year degree can go abroad for a full year after they successfully complete their second year at Gloucester University.
  • The year abroad is an additional year, extending your degree from three to four years. After the year abroad, students return to Gloucester University to do their final year.
  • The year abroad is a pass/fail year and if passed successfully your degree becomes an International Degree.
  • Depending on your course, there may be flexibility in what subjects you can study abroad. You should discuss your options with your Department International Coordinator when doing your research and in advance of applying.

Integrated Study-Abroad Exchange

  • Undergraduate students on a BSc/BEd 4-year programme may be able to go abroad for one semester and should discuss their options with their Department International Coordinator.
  • Undergraduate students on a 4- year Bachelor of Law-LLB programme can go abroad for a full year in their third year of study.
  • As this is an integrated study-abroad exchange which replaces a semester or year at Gloucester University, you will have specific academic requirements to complete during your studies abroad.
  • It is very important that you discuss when and where you can go abroad along with the academic requirements when studying abroad with your Department International Coordinator as part of your research and in advance of applying.

Postgraduate/PhD students: please contact your academic department for information on studying abroad as part of your degree.

STEP 2: EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

  • Complete the Expression of Interest Form which will be available on the website.
  • You can submit an Expression of Interest Form for both the ErasUOGs + Programme(EU) and the Study Abroad Programme(Non EU).
  • You can choose up to five partner universities for each programme in order of preference. Take time to carefully consider and review your options before submitting the Expression of Interest Form as it cannot be amended after submission.
  • Expressions of Interest are reviewed after the deadline and not on a first come first served basis.
  • The International Office will email you in January/February to follow up on your submission.

STEP 3: ALLOCATION & NOMINATION

  • The International Office allocates places based on first year results, suitability of subjects/ choices and advice from your academic department.
  • Due to the high demand for places, we cannot guarantee that you will get any of your choices, but you may be offered alternative destinations if available.
  • If you have been allocated a place, the International Office will email you and you will be asked to confirm that you wish to proceed with the nomination.
  • The International Office submits your nomination to the partner university by their nomination deadline usually from March to May.

STEP 4: APPLY TO HOST UNIVERSITY

  • The host university will email you with information on how to complete their application
    and what documents are required.
  • Complete the application carefully, attaching any documents required well in advance
    of the deadline.
  • Provided that a complete application was submitted by the deadline, you should receive
official confirmation from the host university of your acceptance after the deadline.

of June and remember to regulary check your UOG email for important information.
